GOLD AND MOTHER OF PEARL MERMAID NECKLACE

This beautiful mermaid was carved in wax and cast into sterling silver and gold-plated silver.  She gazes into the sunset or sunrise, depending on how you see it, and the magical mother of pearl glistens.

The mermaid symbol is identifiable to all of us who love the ocean.  She protects and inspires, and is closely associated with healing, fertility, and sexuality.  Homer first wrote about the sirens who lived on small islands across the Mediterranean, creatures who sang songs that lured sailors to shipwreck. But they didn’t sing promising sex or comfort — instead they promised divine knowledge.  It was only in modern times that beauty became the sirens’ allure.  In folklore, Mermaids are considered nomads who can alternate between living on land and their ancestral home. It was said that on a full moon, mermaids would emerge from the water, grow legs and walk into the towns to go dancing with reckless abandon.
